By using a specially-crafted bump key for opening any pin tumbler lock, a special lock picking technique is used known as Lock Bumping. One bump key will work for all same types of locks.

While using this technique a bump key is inserted into the key-way with inward forces which makes it go deeper into the key-way. With the help of specially designed teeth of the bump key transmit a slight impact force to all of the bottom pins in the lock.
